The MARJDI Policing Work GroupThe Policing Work Group includes several MARJDI members, and leaders from the law enforcement community, city and county government, and the judiciary. Our goal is to influence and enhance the conduct of local law enforcement by opening and maintaining productive communication with police organizations. The work group was established in the summer of 2020, and we began to work with law enforcement in January, 2021.
Progress ReportThe Progress Report of the MARJDI Policing Work Group summarizes the origin and process of workgroup activities up to and including the summer of 2021. As a first result of the work group's efforts, in October of 2021, MARJDI organized and sponsored Fair and Impartial Policing, Train-the-Trainer training. Conducted at the Police Academy facility of West Shore Community College. FIP is an anti-bias training grounded in science and tailored to the issues and environment of law enforcement and conducted by law enforcement professionals (More Here). MARJDI sponsored two attendees from each of Manistee’s law enforcement organizations, the Manistee City Police Department, the Manistee Sheriff’s Department, and the LRBOI Public Safety Department. Attendees to this training become certified trainers themselves, and they conduct Fair and Impartial Policing trainings for each member of their agencies. As of Spring 2022, nearly every law enforcement officer in Manistee County has now received the initial anti-bias training with refresher sessions to be conducted annually.
The work group continues to work with Manistee law enforcement on a variety of initiatives. |
