Since November of 2020, MARJDI has been working to inspire all municipalities in Manistee County to adopt our Resolution for Racial Justice, Inclusion and Diversity. (View the Resolution Below)
Resolution for Racial Justice, Inclusion and Diversity
WHEREAS, we are proud of the ——— Township’s diversity. We recognize that in order for our Township to grow and thrive, we must continue to attract and welcome new and diverse talent to our community; and
WHEREAS, we recognize that people of all backgrounds contribute to our Township’s democracy, culture and economy; and
WHEREAS, we recognize that ——— Township exists within the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabe people, and the contributions, culture and identity of our Native American community are an important part of the County’s vitality; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, ——— Township affirms that it is a Welcoming Township for all and that all segments of our Township respect all of our diverse community.
——— Township will not support attacks on, harassment of, or intimidation of individuals that are based on race, color, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, immigration or refugee status, sexual orientation or identity, special physical or mental needs, familial status, economic status or other social identities.
——— Township will advance the basic principles upon which the United States was founded, affirming the equality and dignity of all people regardless of their background. This Resolution is not intended to infringe on individual constitutional rights or federal immigration law.

To date, the Resolution has been passed by 6 of the 19 municipalities within the County--City of Manistee, Arcadia Township, Dickson Township, Onekama Township, Cleon Township and Marilla Township. It also has support from: Manistee County United Way; Manistee County League of Women Voters; Ramsdell Regional Center for the Arts; The Manistee County Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance (which includes 15 Chambers of Commerce in Northern Michigan.
The Resolution has not been presented to the following municipalities: Bear Lake Township; The Village of Bear Lake, Manistee Township; The Village of Onekama; Brown Township; Pleasanton Township; Maple Grove Township; The Village of Kaleva; Springdale Township; Norman Township; Stronach Township and The Village of Eastlake.
If you know anyone who lives in one of these Townships or Villages, or has a personal relationship with a board member of one of these Townships or Villages and would be willing to work with us in getting the Resolution approved, we would appreciate the help!
